"Today, the county seat.   Established in 1887 this town wasn't incorporated until 1916.   It was named for James Eads, an engineer who built the Eads Bridge over the Mississippi River in St. Louis.   The Pueblo and State Line Railroad arrived here in 1887.

The exact location is not known, but this was the site of the infamous massacre committed by Col. John Chivington against the peaceful Indians of Black Kettle camped here (mostly women and children). The Col. was never court martialed for his attack.

Although this small town was originally established in 1887, it was not incorporated until 1951.   It's plat is missing but was probably created and filed in 1888.   At one time this was the county seat when the county was formed, but it lost that to Eads in 1902.

Also known as Memphis) this town was established in 1887.   It's post office on the Pueblo & State Line Railroad route has been operating since 1888 to the present day.   Story has it that a local student, Bryan Unteidt, kept 22 school children alive when the bus was caught in a blizzard and the driver died trying to go for help.   Unteidt was honored at the White House by President Hoover for his heroic act of keeping the children moving until help arrived.
